Is there any possibility that the discussion held in my 8th period class on Monday (3 Mar.) leaked to the former Secretary of State. References to pre-WWII maneuvers by The Third Reich toward Czechoslovakia were front-and-center in discussions about the Ukrainian crisis.
Hillary Clinton: Putin is ‘tough guy with a thin skin’
Hillary Rodham Clinton said Wednesday she was not comparing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions to those of Adolf Hitler before World War II, but merely putting them in context.
“I just want everybody to have a little historic perspective,” she said during remarks at UCLA. “I’m not making a comparison, certainly, but I am recommending that we can perhaps learn from this tactic that has been used before.”
Clinton also called Putin a “tough guy with a thin skin” who is trying to “re-Sovietize the Russian periphery” in her extended comments about the situation in Ukraine.
The former secretary of State created a stir Tuesday when she likened Putin to Hitler during a fundraising luncheon for the Boys & Girls Clubs in Long Beach, part of her two-day Southern California visit.
Putin contends ethnic Russians in Ukraine need to be protected. In her remarks Tuesday, Clinton said that’s what Hitler asserted in the 1930s about ethnic Germans in countries such as Czechoslovakia and Romania before the Nazis invaded Eastern Europe.
Putin last week built up the Russian military presence in Crimea, giving Russians de facto control of key infrastructure in southern Ukraine. President Obama has said Russia has violated international law with its aggression.
Clinton told the UCLA audience on Wednesday that she supports Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, and the Obama administration’s efforts to ensure Russia does not use military force to control the Ukraine crisis.
